At the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School, students are taught more than artistic skills. They are launched into a community of opportunity and diversity, and are encouraged to question assumptions about art, one's self, and the world.
There is no question the love of art exists at ARGS. Students and teachers value the ability to translate our emotions, spirit, and soul into the universal language of the visual. It is why we wake up in the morning, why we engage, endeavor, and support the visual arts...because, Visual Matters! Knowing this, the goal of the curriculum is to make students value themselves as artists; to teach them that embellishing their artistic talent nurtures the soul. It is obvious art is central to the existence of ARGS students. So here at ARGS, students are able to develop their talents and character.
That is what is central to the ARGS experience; the transformation between wanting and performing, between dreaming and doing. Students use this knowledge of themselves to then give to their community. They shed their light on the rest of the world. And ARGS is proud to be their catalyst. |
The Visual Arts program encourages innovation while stressing strong technical and presentation skills. The program also promotes an awareness of current issues and ideas in the visual arts as they relate to contemporary society. The comprehensive curriculum allows students to build upon a foundation of Design Concepts and Drawing I in their freshman year and continues with studio, art history, and portfolio development classes with their experience culminating with an intensive Senior Project.
